Bernstein was a prolific writer, speaker, lecturer and performer and lucky for us, he came of age at the advent of video technology, so we can read, listen AND watch and learn from him.  All of my observations about the music and composition of the Serenade, came from reading and listening to him explain other people’s music and remarking how those ideas and concepts that he admired manifested themselves in his own composition.  So, in the following pages, I’ll try and let Bernstein himself do most of the talking…
